At a high-level meeting on the Global Development Initiative in New York, Qatar emphasized the need for enhanced international collaboration to accelerate sustainable development and advance the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, highlighted the multifaceted challenges that developing countries face, including financial constraints, debt burdens, food and energy insecurity, climate change, and the digital divide.
Al Misnad underscored the importance of sustainable and inclusive development for ensuring long-term peace, stability, and prosperity worldwide. She urged the international community to increase its efforts to bridge the development financing gap and allocate more resources to support developing nations, particularly those that are least developed.
Qatar called for stronger commitments to development finance and climate action, as well as reforms to the international financial system, to better aid developing countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Al Misnad also pointed out the potential of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in fostering sustainable development, while cautioning against the risk that unequal access to technology could exacerbate existing inequalities. She advocated for greater cooperation in areas such as technology transfer, scientific research, innovation, and the enhancement of digital skills.
Reaffirming its dedication to sustainable development, Qatar highlighted its National Vision 2030 and its international partnerships aimed at supporting poverty reduction, education, food security, healthcare, and resilience-building in vulnerable countries. These efforts underscore Qatar’s commitment to advancing global sustainable development initiatives.
