Werro, aged 22, finished the race in 1:55.88, outpacing Britain’s Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson, who took second place with a time of 1:56.26. Femke Broeders-Bol completed the podium in third place. This triumph earned Werro a substantial first prize of $150,000 and marked the culmination of a stellar season where she clinched 14 wins out of her 15 outdoor races, affirming her status as a formidable contender in the 800m category.
Keely Hodgkinson, in her return to competitive form, expressed satisfaction with her performance. The British athlete has faced injury challenges this season, notably a hamstring issue that hindered her ability to engage in critical speed training. In the women’s 1500m event, Georgia Hunter Bell showcased her prowess by finishing closely behind Poland’s Klaudia Kazimierska. Kazimierska secured the win with a time of 3:57.55, edging out Hunter Bell by a mere 0.15 seconds. Hunter Bell’s runner-up position earned her $75,000, adding to her achievements in a season marked by significant championship victories.
The women’s 100m race also witnessed an outstanding performance, with world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden clocking the fastest time globally this year, crossing the finish line in 10.62 seconds. Olympic champion Julien Alfred followed in second place with a time of 10.74, while Sha’Carri Richardson finished third in 10.76 seconds.
