At a high-level ministerial meeting in New York, held alongside the UN General Assembly, Qatar reiterated its commitment to a two-state solution as the path to lasting peace in the Middle East. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, emphasized the necessity of adhering to international law and UN resolutions to realize this vision.
Qatar advocates for the creation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, demarcated by the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This state would coexist peacefully and securely alongside Israel. Al Khulaifi urged nations that have not recognized Palestine to take that step, highlighting the importance of global acknowledgment and support.
Al Khulaifi expressed concern over ongoing settlement expansions, land seizures, and settler violence, which he believes are detrimental to the viability of a two-state solution. He also pointed to actions impacting religious sites in the West Bank as further obstacles to peace.
Addressing the current conflict in Gaza, Al Khulaifi warned that the ensuing humanitarian crisis threatens regional stability and undermines efforts towards a political resolution. Qatar, along with Egypt, the United States, and Türkiye, is actively involved in diplomatic initiatives aimed at establishing a ceasefire and advancing peace talks.
In addition to its diplomatic efforts, Qatar reaffirmed its dedication to humanitarian aid for Palestinians and supporting international initiatives to improve living conditions in Gaza. The nation remains committed to fostering a political solution that ensures long-term peace and security for all parties involved.
