The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Qatar are strengthening their economic ties, with annual bilateral trade nearing the $15 billion mark. This growing partnership is opening up new prospects across various sectors, including energy, aviation, healthcare, agribusiness, telecommunications, fintech, and digital technology.
Since Qatar attained the status of an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner in 2026, the relationship between the two has entered a new phase. This development follows Qatar’s accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in 2022, marking a significant step in their ongoing collaboration. The cooperation has been expanding in fields such as energy, investment, education, connectivity, humanitarian assistance, and sustainable development, bolstered by frequent high-level exchanges.
With a collective population exceeding 680 million and an economic valuation around $3.9 trillion, ASEAN presents a considerable market for Qatar. Both parties are actively exploring potential opportunities in renewable energy, green technology, sustainable infrastructure, smart cities, and digital transformation, aligning with global trends towards sustainability and innovation.
The ASEAN Committee in Doha has expressed its commitment to further enhancing business links and promoting cultural exchanges and people-to-people connections. This initiative aims to foster practical cooperation between ASEAN member states and Qatar, ensuring a robust and mutually beneficial partnership.
