Qatar has pledged to bolster Lebanon’s sovereignty, stability, and economic recovery through enhanced cooperation in critical sectors such as energy and electricity. This commitment was articulated by Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, during discussions with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. The talks centered on reinforcing bilateral ties, addressing regional tensions, and supporting Lebanon’s state institutions.

Sheikh Mohammed emphasized Qatar’s ongoing support for Lebanon, particularly in energy, education, healthcare, and economic development. He reaffirmed Qatar’s backing of the Lebanese Armed Forces, highlighting their importance in maintaining national security and stability. A significant development from the discussions was an agreement between QatarEnergy and France’s TotalEnergies to collaborate on a solar power plant, marking a promising step towards broader energy cooperation.

Additionally, Lebanon is advancing towards a joint initiative to rehabilitate and modernize its electricity generation infrastructure. This project, operating under a build-operate-transfer model, aims to proceed without requiring upfront investment from the Lebanese treasury, according to Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to rejuvenate Lebanon’s energy sector and support its economic recovery.

Qatar also expressed concern over rising hostilities in Lebanon, condemning Israeli attacks on peacekeeping forces and violations of Lebanese territory. Sheikh Mohammed called for adherence to UN Security Council Resolution 1701, urging an end to hostilities and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese regions.

Prime Minister Salam praised Qatar’s sustained political, economic, and humanitarian aid, underscoring its vital role in reconstruction efforts and support for Lebanese state institutions. He noted that cooperation in energy, electricity, and investment is crucial for strengthening the economy, aiding reconstruction, and facilitating the return of displaced residents to their communities.

Qatar reiterated its dedication to collaborating with international partners to enhance Lebanon’s security and stability, ultimately supporting its long-term recovery. This commitment signals a deepened partnership between the two nations aimed at navigating Lebanon through its current challenges.
